An Ancient Mystery in Southern France

One of the greatest mysteries in modern times can be found in southern France. In the 19th century, a poor priest becomes rich overnight and builds impressive and beautiful constructions to show his devotion to Mary Magdalene, whom the Catholic Church has refused to see as a saint. The small village of Rennes-le-Château has been at the centre of various legends, myths and conspiracy theories for being the location of an alleged buried treasure discovered by its priest Beranger Saunière in the old town’s church, a secret that his housekeeper and confident, Marie Dénarnaud would also take to the grave. Journalists around the world and various researchers follow 



Montmartre – Bohemian District of France

In 2006 I had a wonderful experience that left me with an everlasting memory. This fond moment occurred in Montmartre, in the north of the city of Paris. The place itself added to the moment because of its charm and bohemian character. To this day, Montmartre holds its distinct individual character despite having been swallowed by the city. As you wander around its hilly streets, it makes you believe that you are walking around a country village! On visiting Paris recently, I had the great opportunity to revisit this charming district, exploring it in more detail and I realized this is a world apart from the rest of the city! Montmartre has captivated Bohemian artists since the Belle Époque (Period of Western European History) and continues to delight 


Palace of Versailles – An Expression of Ancient Régime

On visiting the Palace of Versailles, located a short distance from Paris City, and its wonderful landscaped gardens with numerous water fountains, one can only marvel at the creation. On a recent trip to the palace and grounds, I was delighted to explore the magnificent groves and fountains including Latona’s Fountain, Apollo’s Fountain, The Ballroom Grove, Neptune Grove and the beautiful Colonnade Grove consisting of 32 iconic columns, designed by Jules Hardouin-Mansart in 1684. Versailles represents the last era of the French Royal Family before the Empire years and at its height exuded unimaginable wealth, ceremony and pomp. It stands for the ways of the monarchy and Ancien Régime (Political & Social Regime of the Kingdom of France). King Louis XVI and his wife
