House Hunters
By Unknown

Birds will be house hunting

Soon – think of that!

Crows in the elm-tops

And larks on the flat,

Owls in the belfry

And wren in the leaves,

And swifts will go house hunting

Under the leaves

Moorhen will hunt for her

Home in the reeds,

Chaffinch the apple head

Bough ere she breeds.

Thrush in the hollow oak,

Sparrow won’t care –

Here, there and everywhere,

Any old where!

Cuckoo won’t trouble

She’ll just stop and call

But starling and nightingale

Blackbird and all,

Jaws as they chatter,

And doves as they croon

Soon will be house hunting

Think of it soon!
