The President can't Fix the Problem
Written by John Abram
If you think that now that Joe Biden has been elected president, that racism in the United States will go away, then I’m sorry to tell you my friend but you’re wrong. The president can’t change how the people think, fundamentally, about their neighboring race. Or their cultural suppositions. Or what it all means to them.
My brother in California said that people cheered in the streets when Trump was defeated. In Alabama, however, where Biden only received about a third of the vote, it was probably a different story. Does that mean that everyone in Alabama is racist? No. In fact there are plenty of black republicans in the South. Look at Latinos for Trump. Look at the Log Cabin Republicans. Americans aren’t divided by race. It runs deeper than that. There are other issues at stake. Overall, there is a tendency of a separation between rural and city. Old and new.
Now I’m a conservative and I’m from the South but I didn’t vote for Trump. I recognized that America needed a change. A chance to heal. Too many people were too upset with the situation. And I hope this brings unity, or at least the feeling of. And I will support the president—any president—because I support my people. No matter their race.
The president can’t fix the problem but you know what? You can’t fix what isn’t broken. The land of the free will shine on in its democracy and racism will subside. The majority of us will work together to take care of our own. While it will always remain, political ideology will always be put aside when it comes to making it work. And progress is work. It is ok for us to have our differences. We will follow our dream.
